Evi Velthuis

Evi Velthuis is a PhD candidate at the European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations (ERCOMER) and the Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS) at Utrecht University. After obtaining a master’s degree in Migration and Ethnic Studies as well as Conflict Studies and Human Rights, she worked both in and outside academia for some years, amongst others as a lecturer in Interdisciplinary Social Science. In September 2017, Evi started working for the Intergroup Tolerance project. Specifically, she investigates questions about the boundaries of tolerance. For instance, do people reject dissenting practices and beliefs if these are perceived as causing harm and violating human rights; if these are perceived as a threat to one’s group identity; or as undermining democratic order?
